How to have interns in your practice!

Student interns and Pre-Licensed Supervisees can provide some great opportunities for your practice! From providing low and no-cost services, to training and teaching and expanding the type of services that you engage in!

If you have a desire to have interns in your practice, you will need the infrastructure to support it! This course will provide you with the tools you need to create a supportive, structured, ethical supervisee placement.

What will you learn?

I believe there are 5 stages to running a great practice where supervisees can thrive!

Step 1 - Start up!

In this section we discover your why. Your purpose for having interns and supervisees in your practice. We discover what kind of intern or supervisee you want (and why knowing that matters). Lastly, we do a quick cost analysis of the costs of having interns and supervisees in you practice.

Step 2 - Set up!

In this section we build your manual, and develop some initial training and support for you as a supervisor. This is the foundational step that will help you make sure you are thinking through the ethics, setting up the program and taking care of your people!  You will have access to all the forms I use in my practice!

Step 3 - Train up!

On-boarding and on-going training experience for your interns and supervisees is the next step. We will help you set up an on-boarding plan that will help your interns and supervisees feel secure and understand the steps to be successful in your practice. And then we will help you build the trajectory for what you want them to learn as they go through your training program.

Step 4 - Connect up!

This section is all about support and building your team. You as a supervisor will need support from other supervisors, you will need contacts with local universities and community members to help you develop a funnel to have people land at your practice (whether students or pre-licensed folks). And we will talk about interview questions and marketing to the community.

Step 5 - Maintaining it!

Once you have built it and created your training program, you will need to start developing a plan to maintain it. Supervising and building a program like this can roll out of hand pretty quickly if you haven't put together your maintenance plan from the start. We'll get you all set up for time management, regular review of your systems and support from your team.
