How to have Interns in your Practice

  • Course

Why This Course?

Practice owners often want to have interns and supervisees in their practice as a way to give back to the next generation of therapists, providing high quality supervision they wish they had themselves or to generate additional revenue without taking on another employee. In order to follow legal, ethical, HIPAA, and other guidelines relevant to having interns and supervisees in your practice, financial investments in systems used must be made.

This presentation will help you understand the most common mistakes practices make when they have interns and supervisees, ideas of where to look for the answers you need, and how to create a supervision environment that gives you peace of mind that you’re equipped to incorporate interns and supervisees into your practice in a way that maintains your fulfillment of legal-ethical responsibilities and models legal-ethical practice for the interns/supervisees.

It’s time to establish the norms for your interns and supervisees regarding their continuing ethical and legal due diligence and education. Your on-boarding process and on-going training plan are vital for making your practice sustainable while also giving the interns and supervisees a plan they can follow to make ethical and responsible decisions in their future (because they probably won’t be with you forever)!

Learning objectives:

  • Identifying the key on-boarding and on-going training needed for interns and supervisees (Legal, Ethics, HIPAA, Informed Consent, Professional Disclosures, etc)

  • Understand how an on-boarding and on-going training plan can effectively create an environment that supports interns and supervisees ethical behavior and client care provision.

  • Develop strategies for creating a training plan that will meet your practice’s needs.
